What is Overnight Oats?

Overnight oats is the perfect breakfast for the student on the go. Since this breakfast is made the night before in a jar, it takes little to no time in the morning. This breakfast is very cheap and good for your body. For every overnight oats you make you will need: Old fashioned oats ($2.39,) milk ($3.36) or water ($0.00), and a pinch of salt. Without adding in any fruit this comes out to be $5.75 with the milk and $2.39 with the water. The calories break down to be 272 with milk, and 150 with water. These are the calories without adding any fruits, peanut butter, Nutella, etc.

To make Flax, Blueberry, Vanilla overnight oats (one of my favorites). This is what you will need: half cup of rolled or quick oats, 2/3 cup of water,1/2 cup of low. fat vanilla yogurt, 1 tablespoon of flaxseed, pinch of salt, blueberries, brown sugar, pecans and whatever else you want. Some of the benefits of eating overnight oats is that this meal contains 8.5 grams of resistant starch, while cooked oatmeal only contains 0.3 grams. Resistant starch is a fiber that doesn't get broken down until it reaches you gut, and this is very good for you, and helps achieve a healthy gut environment. If resistant starch isn't a big deal to you, how about less dishes? This breakfast requires almost no dishes, which means extra time later because you have less cleaning! This is for the T I R E D college student

Since I am a college student I understand when the semester gets to "that point". I'm sure everyone who has been in school can relate. And when that point comes no one has time to sit down and eat with friends, cook, or anything really besides studying. If you know that coming up you have a really stressful week this is the perfect breakfast to make because it's healthy, energizing, super quick and simply. Also since this recipe is so versatile you will never get tired of this meal, you can make it healthy or not healthy if you choose to do so. On the note of eating unhealthy. Without having something prepped in the morning you may grab something like a sugary cereal. And if you decide to eat something like that, you will not be given energy, you will end up having a sugar crash. And if you're already tired because of the workload and stresses of college, that sugar crash is not going to help the productivity of your day. Which will in turn make your tomorrow that much harder. This breakfast. is a perfect solution, because you already have something ready for you, no sugar crashes here. http://livingthegraylife.com/2017/06/16/overnight-oats/

Another way that this breakfast is versatile is that you can have it cold or warm. Most people including myself eat it cold. This is because its quicker and there is less mess to clean up later. But there are also recipes and ways to make the breakfast warm if you prefer a hot breakfast. A way to do that is to put fruit like apples in a saucepan. Then you can add cinnamon and whatever else you want. This can be done with any fruit, and while this does make the dish not as convent time wise, it is worth it if you prefer something warm in the morning.

Something to think about if you are trying to maintain macros. This meal is high in carbs, but all good carbs that will keep you full and provide lots of energy. Make sure if you are trying to stick to a certain diet concerning your macros that you know the amount so you can plan the rest of your day. This recipe is so healthy because the oats give keep you full and give you lots of energy, and since fruit contains a lot of fiber this will also help you stay full. This is such a good breakfast for someone who is tired, which makes this breakfast perfect for people in college.
